  1. Haiti prison escape s Large anti-government protests have escalated to near revolt in the capital of Port-au-Prince, in spite of violent repression from the Haitian Police and United Nations “Peacekeepers”. At the time of this reporting, there are at least 9 confirmed deaths and countless injuries, as police have been using live ammunition to shoot dissenters in the streets. Armed forces also provided escort to evacuate wealthy families as countless disenfranchised Haitians marched, chanted, burned gas stations, and appropriated commercial goods. On Feb. 12, all 78 detainees were able to escape from a prison when guards became distracted by the turbulent demonstrations outside an adjoining police station.

  1. Sudan The People of Sudan are conducting growing demonstrations since December 2018. These protests have call for the removal of Omar al Bashir, who has been in power for more than 30 years. Videos and reports have surfaced implicating government hit squads have been driving up to various civilians associated with the protests, sometimes at their homes. The targets are badly beaten and sometimes taken away. One of the many teachers who were arrested for demonstrating was confirmed to have bee killed in prison. The mass demonstrations have continued despite the repression.

-Members of Sudan's parliament are calling for an emergency session on the government's use of force against protesters.

-Near-daily protests have gripped Sudan since mid-December, starting initially over rising prices and shortages but quickly shifting to calls for the fall of President Omar al-Bashir, who seized power in a 1989 military coup.

-The doctor's union, which supports the protests, says at least 57 people have been killed.

-The government's latest tally stands at 30 killed and 100 injured, though those figures haven't been updated in days.

-Security forces have used tear gas, birdshot and gunfire against protesters, according to activists.

-Demonstrators and journalists have been arrested.

-Videos on social media have also shown vehicles trying to run protesters over, and men in uniforms beating demonstrators with clubs.

-But a small group of independent parliamentarians are trying to stop the state's crackdown, and have called for a frank discussion on ways to stop the violence.

-However, any initiative to control and limit powers of security forces is likely to face obstacles, according to observers.

-Al-Bashir's National Congress Party holds the majority of seats in the National Assembly, with only a minority of independent representatives. Political opponents have been jailed in the past under al-Bashir.

-They say at least 16 journalists are behind bars.

  1. Burma In Loikaw, Kayah: As many as 5,0000 people protested for multiple days against the unveiling of a bronze statue of Aung San, known for his part in gaining Burmese independence from the British Empire 70 years ago. Aug San had made a pact with ethnic minority leaders to grant their groups ethnic autonomy within the newly independent nation, but was assassinated before the plan would be carried out. Today, deadly repression in Burma against ethnic minorities still continues, and protesters denounced the funding and placement of this statue while these problems remain. Police responded to the protests with rubber bullets and a water canon, injuring and arresting dozens of peaceful protesters. As the protests continued for multiple days, the government has dropped charges on many of the detainees and announced it is considering moving the statue.

  1. Barcelona Evictions

Amidst a housing crisis in Barcelona, the government has been employed the Mossos (Catalan police) to enforce evictions for the expropriation of numerous buildings. In Vila de Gracia, some historic buildings with a 200-year-old tree were recently occupied by the neighborhood to protect them from imminent destruction for land speculation. The Mossos evicted them before evicting another occupied autonomous social space called Ca la Trava (circa 2016), only a few blocks away. The next day, other neighbors managed to form an effective defense against the eviction of a family at 209 Roger de Flor Street, where 24 rent-paying working-class families have had their home sold from under them.
